Rumor has it that PS4 and PS5 games will be playable on Sony’s next-gen.

It wasn’t long after the official announcement of the PS5 Pro that intriguing reports about its successor began to surface. While it’s clear that the PlayStation 6 will eventually arrive, Reuters has revealed new details today.

Sony’s next console is expected to feature AMD components, which is excellent news for collectors, as backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5 games seems highly likely. Details below.

PlayStation 6 to feature AMD chips

At least three companies—Broadcom, AMD, and Intel—competed for the contract to produce chips for the PlayStation 6. Broadcom was eliminated during earlier stages of negotiation, leaving AMD and Intel. Ultimately, AMD won the bid.

Although this detail may seem minor at first, it’s actually quite promising for gamers. With AMD having been involved in the PS5’s development, Sony is likely to manage backward compatibility more smoothly. Choosing Intel could have posed significant challenges and increased costs.
