Golden Eggs are a powerful smoothie ingredient in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, boosting the effect of any drink. But they’re rare, and can be quite difficult to find.

In this The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom guide, we’ll explain what Golden Eggs do, as well as telling you where you can find some, so that you can make as many golden smoothies as possible.

What are Golden Eggs in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?

Golden Eggs are a smoothie ingredient. On their own, they restore two of Zelda’s hearts, but they should definitely be used in a drink as they greatly boost the effects of other ingredients.

Using a Golden Egg will always make a Golden Smoothie. When blended with a healing ingredient, the resulting smoothie will restore 20 hearts. When combined with an effect, like increased swim speed, that effect will last for five minutes. It doesn’t seem like Golden Eggs can be used to get increased Swordfighter form energy, however.

There are only a set number of them in the game, so we recommend that you use them carefully. If you make lots of different kinds of smoothies with them, you’ll be able to buy these from the smoothie salespeople later, even if you don’t have the eggs to make them. (Although they cost a cool 300 Rupees.) Golden Eggs also sell for 150 Rupees.

In the rest of this guide, though, we’ll show you how to get as many as possible.

Where to find Golden Eggs in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Golden Eggs can usually be found in dungeons as well as in caves scattered around Hyrule. Exploring non-essential paths and opening every possible chest is a good strategy for finding Golden Eggs. They’re located in many main story dungeons, plus can be found from a variety of side activities. We’ve listed all the Golden Eggs we’ve found so far below.

Main story Golden Egg locations

You can find seven Golden Eggs throughout the dungeons of the main story. (For the best order to hit these dungeons, see our Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom walkthrough.)

Ancestor’s Cave of Rest

You’ll visit this cave as part of the quest “A Rift in the Gerudo Desert.” You can collect the Holmill echo here, if you don’t have it already, allowing you to burrow into sand.

In the room immediately after encountering the Holmill, burrow into the sand at the furthest left point (shown above), where it extends down further than in other spots. At the bottom there is a chest containing a Golden Egg.

After getting your first small key in the Gerudo Sanctum while completing the “A Rift in the Gerudo Desert” main quest, you’ll find yourself in one of the 2D puzzle rooms with a rolling caromadillo. After defeating the Caromadillo, summon a holmill to dig through the sand to find a chest with a Golden Egg.

If you don’t have a Holmill Echo the first time you visit this room, you’ll be able to pick one up later in this dungeon and come back for this egg.

As you’re making your way through the Hyrule Castle dungeon, you’ll find a Golden Egg in the chest on the right of the boss key chest.

On Faron Temple’s second floor, there’s a large, oddly shaped room which is dark until you have lit all the braziers. Taking the central-west door will lead to a room with a chest which holds a Golden Egg.

There is a Golden Egg in Eldin Temple, which you can find by following our Eldin Temple walkthrough.

There is a Golden Egg in Lanayru Temple, which you can find by following our Lanayru Temple walkthrough.

Other Golden Egg locations

There are some Golden Eggs you won’t find in areas that you have to go to to complete the main story of Echoes of Wisdom. These are mainly in caves and other mini dungeons.

This cave introduces the Bombfish Echo, which is incredibly useful. Complete the cave to enter a room with a chest held up by a wooden beam. You’ll need to use fire to break the beam, which is easier said than done.

If you have a tall echo, you might be able to ignite it with an ignizol, but what actually worked for us was placing an ignizol on the ledge to the right, Binding to it, and then walking back and dropping into the water to lower it before finally returning to the wooden beam to set it on fire.

Once you get the chest to drop, you’ll get your Golden Egg reward.

The Graveyard Cave can be found north of Hyrule Castle. You’ll need to first clear the Stilled Northern Sanctuary Rift before you can enter. (Interestingly, if you go into the sanctuary once you’ve cleared the rift, there’s a person who will tell you about the existence of strange golden eggs…)

Head east from the area the rift was covering and light the braziers using ignizol to move the large gravestone.

Found to the west of Hyrule Castle, this entrance into the ground leads into a swimming section and eventually a chest with a Golden Egg.

Side quest rewards and other Golden Eggs

Some sidequests and activities found throughout Echoes of Wisdom will also reward Golden Eggs.

‘One Soldier Too Many’

“One Soldier Too Many” is a side quest that you can pick up from the guard to the right of the entrance to Hyrule Castle after closing the rift there as part of the main quest.

Completing this side quest will reward you with a Golden Egg from General Wright.

You can collect stamps at various locations around Hyrule. If you complete the first card (which requires five stamps) the Stamp Guy will give you a second card, with six spaces. If you manage to fill this in as well, he’ll reward you with three golden eggs. For help tracking these down, see our guide to all stamp locations.

Acorn Gathering is a minigame you can play in a few locations around Hyrule. For a Golden Egg, speak to the man with the acorn hat in the Northern Sanctuary. (You’ll need to clear the rift here first.) You’ll need to grab 11 acorns in 40 seconds for the egg – and you’ll get 20 Rupees as well.

You can apparently net 10 Golden Eggs by making all 69 smoothie and potion recipes in the game.

One final way to net Golden Eggs in Echoes of Wisdom is using amiibo. We’ve found that if you scan any Zelda amiibo before you beat Hyrule Castle you can receive smoothie ingredients, including, rarely, Golden Eggs.
